Safeguarding

We at Puriton Primary School take our Safeguarding responsibilities very seriously. This means that we continue to ensure that everyone working in the school has successfully completed the necessary clearances and training to enable them to work with our children. Our duties include safeguarding children from radicalisation and extremism - we have a responsibility to protect children from extremist and violent views, the same way we help to protect them from drugs or child sexual exploitation (CSE) for example.

Key Safeguarding Roles

Safeguarding (ID 1042)

 Our Commitment to Safeguarding

Our shared commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children and young people is ensured through five key elements:

  • Maintaining a high profile of Safeguarding across the school so that all children can learn and thrive in a safe environment
  • Ensuring we practice rigorous safer recruitment procedures in checking the suitability of all staff and volunteers to work with children
  • Raising awareness of safeguarding issues with children, in an age appropriate way, so equipping them with the skills needed to keep themselves safe
  • Implementing clear and consistent procedures for identifying and reporting cases, or suspected cases, of abuse and/or allegations against teachers and other members of staff
  • Supporting pupils who have been abused in accordance with a Child Protection Plan

Sharing Information

Where appropriate, we would always hope to share any concerns we may have about a child with their parents, as we hope parents do with us about their or any other child. Part of our legal duty to safeguard children, may also include us needing to consult with and take advice from other agencies such as the Police, or Children’s Social Care, should the need arise.
